With her sparkling personality, velvet voice and fresh good looks, Austrian born mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager has delighted audiences throughout Europe and the United States. On When Night Falls, her second solo recording for Sony Classical, she performs a collection of lullabies from around the world.

Featuring songs from such varied composers as Brahms, Copland, Schubert, Rodgers, Sondheim and Menotti, Kirchschlager delivers a sensitively balanced program of songs celebrating motherhood. The enchanting personal statement in song was inspired by the birth of Kirchschlager's son Felix.

Highlights include "Edelweiss" from Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music, an extraordinary performance of "Not While I'm Around" from the Stephen Sondheim musical Sweeney Todd, and "Stay With Me" from Into the Woods. The collection also features the rarely heard and heart-rending "Mother's Aria" from Menotti's classic opera The Consul.
