This disc features the music from films in which Gould himself had played a part. The dazzling music heard in the 1972 film Slaughterhouse Five infused a certain mystery and classicism into a film that occasionally threatened to veer into farce. Gould played an active role in selecting the music for Slaughterhouse Five and worked with the filmmakers, choosing the vibrant and energetic performances of Bach scores used in the film.

Glenn Gould was also intimately involved in the 1983 film adaptation of Timothy Findley's novel The Wars. (He refused to take on the job until he was convinced that no animals had been harmed in the graphic battle scenes.) The soundtrack had barely been completed when he died; it features the haunting music of Richard Strauss and Brahms.

In 1993 a new generation of listeners were introduced to the "ecstasy and wit" that was the genius of Glenn Gould with the release of the meditative Thirty-Two Short Films about Glenn Gould (SK 46686). The soundtrack remains a best-seller and this overview features selections by Scriabin, Bach and Sibelius.
