Release Date: June 23, 1998 SK60668 CD Longplay Karl Jenkins (a member of the seminal 70s art rock band Soft Machine) is the man behind some of the most widely heard music in the world today -- especially the themes used in TV commercials for Delta Airlines ("Adiemus") and DeBeers diamonds ("Palladio"). The music on this album, Imagined Oceans, combines the elements that made each of these so memorable: driving, propulsive "baroque" strings and haunting female voices singing words of mystery. Imagined Oceans was inspired by the fact that early astronomers believed the moon to be covered by large bodies of water, and gave names to these oceans. Jenkins uses several different compositional techniques to depict musical images of water (such as raindrops, waves and steam). This is the first recording from the newly-formed Karl Jenkins Ensemble and also features beautiful melodies played on the recorder, a sound that will be familiar to fans of James Horner's music for the film Titanic (SK 63213). Imagined Oceans is a creative and seductive journey not to be missed. |
