About
Official Site: http://www.badix.ch/voc/gambill.htmlSince his memorable debut as "Tannhaeuser" at the Berlin State Opera in 1999, Robert Gambill has been invited to sing the dramatic Heldentenor roles in the leading opera houses and concert halls all over the world. Tannhaeuser became his "signal role" with productions in Berlin, Madrid, Munich, Toulouse, Dresden and most recently at La Scala di Milano. Other repertoire includes Florestan , Siegmund, Max and Parsifal which he sang in Berlin, Tokyo, Stuttgart, Dresde, Geneva, San Francisco, Munich and at the Lucerne Festival under Claudio Abbado. The Financial Times wrote ... " gloriously open and full-bodied, his voice a treat but it's how he uses it that makes his Parsifal so compelling. Each note has its own colour, or colours, each phrase is carefully weighted, the whole is utterly engaging". He sang his first Tristan in 2003 at the Glyndebourne Festival, followed by performances in Lisbon and at the Dresde Opera. In 2003 he performed Oedipus Rex at the Metropolitan Opera New York (Gergiev conducting). He was also invited to the BBC Prom Concerts to sing this role under Esa-Pekka Saraste. Another turning point in his career was his touching and beautifully sung interpretation of Peter Grimes at the Salzburg Easter Festival 2005 and later in Berlin with the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. Equally at home on the concert platform, Robert Gambill performed Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at Carnegie Hall under Barenboim, at Tanglewood and Philadelphia under Mehta, at the Lucerne Festival and the London Prom Concerts under Salonen as well as in Rome with the Santa Cecilia Orchestra. He sang Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius" with the Chicago Symphony, Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde" in Cleveland, Prague, at the Edinburgh and Salzburg Festival. Plans include a long-term project of "Der Ring des Nibelungen" at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in collaboration with the Salzburg Easter Festival and the Berlin Philharmonic in Berlin, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, where Robert Gambill will sing his first Loge in Das Rheingold and Siegmund in Die Walkuere. |
