AboutOfficial Site: http://www.philharmoniachorus.co.uk/The Chorus has maintained its reputation as one of the finest in the world for its 40 years of existence. To maintain this high standard, and its independence, the Chorus is managed by an elected Council, all of whom must be active singers. As a self-governing body, the Chorus Council draws on its own, and that of members', professional expertise in the fields of finance, travel, public relations, marketing, printing, the law and administration. This expertise helps us to provide promoters with an efficient and realistic service at minimum cost. Since it was founded in 1957 it has been closely linked with the Philharmonia Orchestra. The two organisations are separate entities, however, and the Chorus enjoys the freedom of working with other orchestras as well as maintaining its close association with its founding orchestra. In recent years the Chorus have also collaborated with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, European Community Youth Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmoniqe de Strasbourg, the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra, as well as The Wallace Collection and the National Youth Wind Band. By appointing the finest Chorus Masters in Europe, we constantly strive to maintain our own characteristic sound quality and achieve the highest musical standards which have given us our international reputation. We adhere strictly to a policy of auditioning and re-auditioning and regular rehearsal attendance. There is a great sense of loyalty and pride in making music at the highest level with some of the greatest conductors and orchestras in the world and this is best displayed in the commitment of our membership. |
